March Madness

All the kids began rehearsing for Wizard of Oz the beginning of March! It promises to be quite the fun production. Cami and Ben both tried out for leads. They could each try out for 3 different parts, so Cami chose Dorothy, talking crows, and flying crows. Ben tried out to be the Mayor, the gatekeeper, and a flying monkey. Interestingly, Cami got called back once for Dorothy, and then again - not for Dorothy, but for Auntie Em! So off she went to the final callback for A.Em. Final results? Cami is .....duh du du du....Auntie Em, and Ben is the Mayor of the Munchkin city! Happy hooligans all around! They both did great in auditions.

Kendra & friend
The lovely and gracious Kendra always has a blast working in the nursery with me every month. She loves the babies, and they always like her better than me. Boo hoo. Notice the mad scientist look in those hooligan eyes.....obviously hatching some evil plot. I love when I catch this look in her eyes. I'm instantly transported back to when she was about 2 yrs old. I'd call her to come to me, and she would turn around, little fists clenched, shaking with excitement, THIS (see above) look in her eyes as she decided whether to come......or RUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!!!!!! Sigh. my odds back then were never better than 50/50. Yes, she got spanked. It was just too darn fun to run (the thrill of the chase)!

"I look uttery rediculous!....." The indignities a piggy must suffer....
....at the hands of Cami, of course. The queen of all things lacy and frilly. The only one who tortures poor Crega and Padme in such humiliating ways. I ask you. Does that piggy look happy? I don't think so! Poor piggies. Humph.

And now, a male interlude......
Mark and Ben went for a hike down a favorite canyon one Sun. afternoon to check out the state of the waterfall. There had been plenty of rain, as evidenced by the lush green grass along the trail, so there was plenty of water in the creek.

Ben up to pool #2

There are 2 or 3 different pools to climb up, when the waterfall is running nicely. They must be navigated around in order to get to the waterfall itself.

Finally made it!

OK, ok, so it isn't exactly Niagra Falls, but it's a pretty hike in the spring, and is deserving of appreciation because most of the water is gone by June or July.

Now here's a view from close to the waterfall, looking back down the canyon. You can see the mountains clear on the other side of the valley off there in the distance. Very nice view!

Lets see...what else happened in March. Mark was in the thick of tax season. Kids all extremely busy with assorted busynesses. Oh yes! Ben and Cami both did the Certificate of Merit exams for their respective instruments. They both had to play songs, and technique (scales and the like), AND take the theory test for their different levels (Ben did level 5 piano, Cami did level 2 violin). They both scored very well. Ben also played for the Jr. Bach festival this month. Spring is VERY busy in the piano department around here.
